Further information
Julia Tjus studied physics at the University of Wuppertal (1999-2004) and received her doctorate from TU Dortmund University in 2007. Her theses have won several awards. Julia Tjus worked as a postdoc at the University of Gothenburg from 2008 to 2009, before being offered a junior professorship in high-energy particle astrophysics at the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB). In 2013, she accepted an appointment as W3 Professor of Theoretical Physics IV, in particular Plasma Astroparticle Physics, having already been appointed W2 Professor in 2012.
In her physics research, Julia Tjus deals with theoretical calculations of particle transport and interaction in astrophysical environments, as well as the measurement and interpretation of signatures in astroparticle physics. As part of her research at the Lamarr Institute, she is developing methods to explore the use of simulation-based AI in muiltimesssenger physics scenarios.
Julia Tjus has received several awards for her work in the field of plasma astroparticle physics. She has been director of the Ruhr Astroparticle and Plasma Physics Center (RAPP Center) since 2015 and has been spokesperson for the Collaborative Research Center SFB1491 since 2022. She is currently an elected member of the DFG Review Board Astronomy and Astrophysics, the Board of the Astronomical Society and the Steering Board of the High Energy Division of the International Astronomical Union.
