The Lamarr Institute’s network successfully connects internationally leading experts in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning from research institutions within the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Germany as well as world-wide. The result is a vibrant ecosystem of joint projects, initiatives and collaboration formats that is continuously expanded through research efforts and strategic measures.

Regional Partners

The Lamarr Fellowship Program

The Lamarr Fellowship is central to the Lamarr Institute’s regional institutional network whereby strong regional partners are integrated into its scientific environment. The six Lamarr Fellows have demonstrated internationally outstanding research and achievements in AI. As recipients of the NRW’s funding program “Lamarr Fellow Network Ramp Up”, the Fellows and their teams conduct research projects together with Lamarr researchers along Lamarr’s central vision of Triangular AI. In addition, they gain access to the structures and opportunities of the Lamarr Institute.

The six AI centers are a core element of the German AI Action Plan and AI research ecosystem. The AI centers, which pool together leading expertise in the field, are spearheading Germany’s efforts to advance AI research and transfer with wide-reaching international visibility. To this end, they cooperate extensively on matters of research and education on AI in order to share skills and the latest findings. The Lamarr Award recognizes the achievements of internationally outstanding AI experts. These pioneers in research and development have revolutionized and advanced the field, particularly in line with the Lamarr Institute’s vision of Triangular AI. Through the distinguished award program, the Lamarr Award recipients become part of the international Lamarr network and cooperate with its researchers on forward-thinking and innovative AI solutions. The Lamarr Award was first presented in 2024.
