Asja Fischer is a professor at the Faculty of Computer Science at the Ruhr University Bochum where she is the head of chair of Machine Learning since 2019. After earning a PhD at the University of Copenhagen in 2014, she was postdoc at Yoshua Bengios group at the Montreal institute for learning algorithms (now called MILA-Quenec AI Institute), Akademische Rätin at Bonn University, and assistant professor at Ruhr University Bochum.  Her research area is deep learning with a focus on deep learning theory, generative models, and the intersection of machine learning and security.

She is Scholar of the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS) in the”Theory, Algorithms, and Computations of Modern Learning Machines” program since 2019 and PI at the cluster of excellence CASA and the DFG Transregio “Spatio-temporal Statistics for the Transition of Energy and Transport”. She was programm chair of the ECML/PKDD in 2022, general workshop chair of the ICLR 2020, and frequently serves as area chair for ICLR, NeurIPS, and ICML.
