The Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence is pleased to announce the publication of the recommendations of the Taskforce on Artificial Intelligence in Education, which were presented to the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia on July 2. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Michael Baurmann and Prof. Dr. Christiane Eilders, a comprehensive recommendation paper was presented containing concrete proposals for the responsible and sustainable integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in schools, universities and further education.
The Lamarr Institute, as one of the central players in the task force, played a pivotal role in developing the recommendations. These include five key packages of measures aimed at making the use of AI in education safer and more effective. These involve the creation of legal certainty, the introduction of nationwide training courses, the development and testing of best practices, access to AI applications and the establishment of an “AI in education” competence network.
Following intensive and interdisciplinary collaboration, concrete measures were developed to integrate AI into the education sector in a timely manner and to systematically promote the further training of teachers and students.
The recommendations include specific measures for all areas of education. In the school sector, the development of science-based training formats is recommended, among other things, in order to qualify teachers for the use of AI. In the higher education sector, the focus is on the further development of training courses for university didactics and the creation of common access options to AI systems. Tailor-made training courses are being developed for continuing education in the public welfare sector in order to address the heterogeneous needs of learners and teachers.
The Lamarr Institute is looking forward to jointly shaping the future of the education sector in the field of artificial intelligence with leading scientists and education experts and to further cooperation in order to put the task force’s proposals into practice together with the state government.
