DiWoDo 2023: Event “Sustainability in the Age of AI”

Lamarr News EN DiWoDo Nachhaltige KI - Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI)

As part of the Digital Week Dortmund (DiWoDo), the Lamarr Institute invites you to the event “Sustainability in the Age of AI” on September 25, 2023 from 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at its premises at TU Dortmund University. With the participation of leading experts from NRW, the event will take a look at the sustainability of and with Artificial Intelligence and will include a demonstration of the interactive AI Design Sprint™ as well as an exhibition of various demonstrators.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to make a significant contribution to advancing sustainability. By using AI applications, we can optimize processes, use resources more efficiently and find innovative solutions to ecological, economic and social challenges. However, the discussion about digitization, AI and sustainability is also increasingly focused on the significant energy consumption associated with the development and use of AI systems.

Sustainability in the Age of AI

The event “Sustainability in the Age of AI” is dedicated to this thematic field of debate. Look forward to an exchange with experts from the Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, Meinungsmonitor Künstliche Intelligenz (MeMo:KI), Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML), Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems (IAIS) and the competence platform KI.NRW!

We will start with a demonstration of the interactive AI Design Sprint™ (11 a.m. – noon), during which you will get to know the systematics of this special workshop concept and also learn all kinds of interesting facts about Artificial Intelligence. From noon – 2:30 p.m., our experts will be on hand to answer your questions: What innovative AI solutions already exist to improve sustainability? What AI approaches are being developed in applied research to make sustainability transformation more transparent?  What is the energy consumption of AI systems and how can it be measured? And how does the public actually perceive the use of AI in the context of sustainability? Get answers to these questions and many more from our experts at several live demo stations.
