Brave New World?! Philosophy Meets AI

On November 28th and 29th, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, the annual conference of the NRW Philosophy Association will convene to explore the profound impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on society. One of its events, Brave New World?! About Life with AI, will delve into the philosophical, educational, and ethical dimensions of AI’s rapid integration into various aspects of human life, with a particular emphasis on its implications for education and societal structures.

A highlight of the conference will be a keynote by Prof. Dr. Eva Schmidt, Professor of Theoretical Philosophy at TU Dortmund University and Principal Investigator for Trustworthy AI at the Lamarr Institute. Dr. Schmidt, an expert in epistemology and the philosophy of mind and action, will present her insights into how philosophy can support the development of ethically robust AI systems. Her talk will focus on bridging conceptual gaps between ethical demands, such as trust and responsibility, and the explainability and comprehensibility of AI systems.

The event will also feature presentations from other prominent academics, including Prof. Dr. Catrin Misselhorn (University of Göttingen) and Prof. Dr. Stefan Selke (Furtwangen University of Applied Sciences), promising a comprehensive exploration of AI’s philosophical and practical implications.
