“Relate – Talk with Me” Exhibition: Exploring AI, Art, and Human Interaction
From October 18, 2024, to February 2, 2025, the Lamarr Institute will participate in the interactive exhibition “Relate – Talk with Me” by Andrea Familari, held at the Dortmunder U. This exhibition focuses on the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and human relationships, offering visitors a chance to engage with an AI-driven voice bot, represented by a 3D avatar. Through conversations that range from casual to thought-provoking, guests can experience firsthand the complexities of human-machine interactions.
Prof. Dr. Lucie Flek, Area Chair of Natural Language Processing (NLP) at the Lamarr Institute, played a crucial role in the development of the exhibition’s bot. She lent her expertise in language processing to design a voice bot that simulates human dialogue while highlighting key issues such as bias, feedback loops and interaction habits in AI systems.
This event aims to provoke reflection on how AI systems can influence human communication and relationships. “How do bots create the illusion of human connection? What habits do we develop in interacting with this technology? How does this dialogue influence our perceptions of ourselves and others? And can a bot be designed to challenge our biases and spark curiosity?” are some of the questions instigated by the exhibition.
