The interactive exhibition “Relate – Talk with Me” by Andrea Familari at Dortmunder U runs from October 18, 2024, to February 2, 2025, inviting visitors to explore the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in our daily lives and its impact on human relationships. The installation encourages guests to engage with a voice bot represented by a 3D avatar, opening up new perspectives on human-machine interactions. Much like a random encounter on a park bench, these conversations can be friendly, trivial, challenging, or thought-provoking.
Prof. Dr. Lucie Flek, Lamarr Area Chair Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Professor for Data Science & Language Technologies at b-it, contributed her expertise in language processing to this project. Her valuable insights helped design the voice bot to simulate the complexity of human dialogue while raising essential questions about bias, feedback loops, and interaction habits.
The exhibition “Relate – Talk with Me” addresses the growing relevance of AI-powered systems and their influence on our understanding of communication and relationship-building. Visitors are invited to explore the boundaries between humans and machines and to question how technology shapes our perceptions of ourselves and others.
