Further information
Björn Krüger studied computer science, mathematics, and physics at Bonn University, where he received his Master’s degree in computer science (Dipl.-Inform.) in 2006 and his Ph.D. (Dr. rer. nat.) in computer science in 2012. From 2012 to 2015, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Bonn University. In 2015, he joined Gokhale Method Enterprise Inc. (Stanford, CA) as Director of Research and Product Development, leading the development of wearable devices for posture monitoring.
Returning to academia, he became Professor for “Distributed Media Applications and Technologies” at TH Köln in 2022. Since 2023, he has held the Professorship for “Personalized Digital Health and Telemedicine” at the University of Bonn. He is a member of the Faculty of Medicine and, since 2025, also of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
His research centers on technologies for capturing, analyzing, and interpreting human movement and physiological data. He is particularly interested in developing sensor-independent methods that enable the analysis of motion and health parameters across different modalities, such as video recordings, inertial sensors, eye-tracking, EEG and EMG signals.
His work combines hardware development, signal processing, and machine learning to detect and understand disease patterns and health events – for example, in epilepsy or rehabilitation contexts. In addition, he explores contactless measurement approaches using video, depth, and thermal imaging to derive both movement and vital signs. A further focus of his work lies in data analysis and visualization, as well as in ensuring privacy, data protection, and security when handling sensitive health-related data.
