Jens Kleesiek is Director of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (IKIM) at Essen University Hospital and heads the Department of Machine Learning in Medicine. He is a member of the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Duisburg-Essen as well as the Faculty of Physics at TU Dortmund University.
After studying medicine and obtaining his doctoral degree (2005) in Heidelberg, Germany, he studied bioinformatics in Hamburg, where he also obtained his PhD in computer science in 2015. In 2020, he qualified as a specialist in radiology and in 2021 as a specialist in medical informatics. He worked for several years in an executive role in industrial software development.
His research focuses on the recognition of clinically relevant patterns in medical data and the integration of multimodal information to improve decision-making at the point of care.
