Further information

Michael Kamp is an Associate Professor for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence at TU Dortmund University since 2025 and faculty member of the Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. He is also affiliated with the Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (IKIM) at University Medicine Essen, where he previously led the research group on Trustworthy Machine Learning.

After completing his doctorate at the University of Bonn, he worked for nearly a decade as a data scientist at Fraunhofer IAIS, led EU project contributions, and trained industry partners. From 2019 to 2021, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Monash University and Monash Data Futures Institute, remaining an associated fellow until 2024. In 2021, he joined the CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security as a postdoctoral researcher.

His research focuses on theoretical foundations of deep learning, causal representation learning, and privacy-preserving machine learning methods, such as federated learning, for sensitive applications, especially in medicine and healthcare.
