Florian Bernard is Associate Professor at the University of Bonn, one of Lamarr’s partner organizations, where he heads the Learning and Optimisation for Visual Computing group. Before joining University of Bonn, he was Visiting Professor at the chair of Computer Vision & Artificial Intelligence at the Technical University of Munich. He also held a position as postdoctoral researcher in the Graphics, Vision and Video group at the Max-Planck-Institute for Informatics, and at the University of Luxembourg, where he also received his Ph.D. degree.

He has received numerous awards, including the BVM Award for his Ph.D. thesis in 2017 and the Best Student Paper Runner-Up award at CVPR 2024. In 2024, he received an ERC Starting Grant to push the boundaries of visual data association, which lies at the intersection of 3D shape analysis, mathematical optimization, and machine learning.
