In a research-driven meeting between the disciplines of computer science and physics, the CS & Physics Meet-up took place from November 29 to December 1, 2023 at the Lamarr site at the Technical University of Dortmund. Over a period of three days, top-class researchers from the fields of computer science, specializing in Machine learning and Artificial intelligence, as well as physicists, especially with a focus on particle physics, astro(-particle) physics and radio astronomy, met at the Lamarr Institute.
The event, organized by the interdisciplinary Lamarr research area Astrophysics under the direction of Principal Investigator Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Rhode, in close cooperation with the NRW Cluster for Data-Intensive Radio Astronomy: Big Bang to Big Data (B3D), had the ambitious goal of providing a comprehensive overview of current research topics, questions and learning tasks. At the same time, a bridge was built between the only seemingly disparate disciplines of computer science and physics in order to identify opportunities for collaboration and pave the way for future cooperation.
During numerous lectures, pitch talks and interdisciplinary discussions, the scientists provided insights into their work and jointly explored interfaces for future joint projects. The Lamarr Institute, as the host of this interdisciplinary meeting, acted as a catalyst for the exchange of ideas and the development of new research approaches.
