Artificial intelligence has enormous potential to transform healthcare, but only if scientific breakthroughs can be translated into solutions that are trusted, scalable and capable of improving patient care in everyday clinical practice.

Building on the relationships established during the Lamarr Institute’s delegation visit to Canada of last year, the Lamarr Institute of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence and the Centre de recherche du Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CRCHUM) have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) during AI26 – The Lamarr Conference. The agreement represents a direct outcome of these international exchange activities and marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration between CRCHUM and the Technical University of Dortmund, one of the Lamarr Institute’s core partners, to strengthen international collaboration in trustworthy AI for healthcare.

“I am enthusiastic about our partnership with the Lamarr Institute. Together, we aim to move beyond promising AI prototypes in biomedical research and healthcare, and to identify and responsibly deliver trustworthy solutions that can be scaled across our respective health systems. Our shared goal is to ensure that AI makes a positive difference where it matters most to patients: access, safety, equity, and sustainability” states Prof. Dr. Sylvain Baillet, CRCHUM Montréal

The collaboration reflects one of the central themes of AI26: strengthening international cooperation to translate excellent AI research into practical healthcare solutions. Prof. Dr. Jürgen Bajorath, Chair of AI in Life Sciences at the Lamarr Institute emphasizes: “Artificial intelligence can only transform healthcare if scientific advances are translated into robust, practical tools that clinicians and patients can trust. International collaboration is essential for developing AI solutions that can be validated across healthcare systems, responsibly deployed in clinical practice and ultimately improve patient care.”

By connecting expertise across disciplines, institutions and healthcare systems, the new partnership aims to accelerate the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence in medicine, from biomedical research and drug discovery to diagnostics and patient care. In doing so, it contributes to a shared vision that extends beyond the AI26: ensuring that excellent AI research delivers real-world impact where it matters most.
