Sören Kerner is heading the main department “AI and Autonomous Systems” at Fraunhofer IML since 2014. In 2005, he received his diploma in applied computer science from TU Dortmund University. Subsequently, he earned his doctorate in electrical engineering (Dr.-Ing) at the Institute for Robot Research (IRF) in the context of autonomous walking robots. During this time, he led the robot soccer team of TU Dortmund University, which was successful at international competitions. In 2011, he took a team leadership position in the research and development department of Caterpillar Global Mining HMS GmbH. He operated partly in Dortmund and partly in Milwaukee on the development of autonomy functions of hydraulic excavators for surface mining. Sören Kerner represents the IML in euRobotics and the Platform Lernende Systeme.
