Math 1998) und Informatik mit dem Schwerpunkt K\u00fcnstliche Intelligenz an der Stanford University (MSc 2000). W\u00e4hrend seiner Promotion war er Mitglied der Forschungsgruppe von Prof. Klaus-Robert M\u00fcller am Fraunhofer-Institut FIRST (Dr. rer. nat 2004). Danach war er zwei Jahre lang Marie-Curie-Stipendiat an der Universit\u00e4t von Edinburgh (2005-2007). Seit 2007 arbeitet er am Max-Planck-Institut f\u00fcr biologische Kybernetik in Bernhard Sch\u00f6lkopfs Abteilung f\u00fcr Empirische Inferenz, die sp\u00e4ter in das neue Max-Planck-Institut f\u00fcr Intelligente Systeme in T\u00fcbingen integriert wurde. Im Jahr 2014 wurde er Professor f\u00fcr Maschinelles Lernen an der HHU D\u00fcsseldorf und seit M\u00e4rz 2022 ist er Professor f\u00fcr K\u00fcnstliche Intelligenz an der TU Dortmund, Deutschland.
