Die Forschung am Lamarr-Institut entwickelt anwendungsorientierte Algorithmen des Maschinellen Lernens (ML) und der K\u00fcnstlichen Intelligenz (KI) auf h\u00f6chstem Qualit\u00e4tsniveau, mit herausragender Leistung, Vertrauensw\u00fcrdigkeit und Ressourceneffizienz. Der vielleicht wichtigste Punkt ist, dass in der Physik in der Regel viele Jahre Arbeit in die Erstellung der numerischen Darstellungen von Theorien und Modellen, den so genannten Monte-Carlo-Simulationsalgorithmen, investiert werden, um die Messprozesse in einem Experiment zu beschreiben. Dabei werden die Wahrscheinlichkeiten berechnet, die die in der Physik gesuchten Klassifikationen oder Regressionen mit den gemessenen Daten, zum Beispiel den von einer Kamera erfassten Signalen, verbinden. Es gibt also eine hochpr\u00e4zise virtuelle Realit\u00e4t, die sowohl zur Optimierung des Versuchsaufbaus als auch zum Training und zur Bewertung aller Algorithmen des Maschinellen Lernens verwendet werden kann. Simulationstechniken und Maschinelles Lernen erg\u00e4nzen sich also gegenseitig und helfen uns, die physikalische Welt besser zu verstehen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Optimale Nutzung von Daten aus Experimenten<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Die Anpassung von Algorithmen des Maschinellen Lernens an experimentelle Daten ist ein Eckpfeiler von Anwendungen in der Physik. In unserer Forschung am Lamarr-Institut wollen wir a priori bekanntes Dom\u00e4nenwissen in den Prozess des Maschinellen Lernens einbeziehen, so dass wertvolle Daten nicht daf\u00fcr verschwendet werden, bekannte Korrelationen erneut zu finden. Umgekehrt wollen wir generalisierbares Wissen aus dem maschinellen Lernprozess f\u00fcr die Modellbildung extrahieren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Die Aufgaben, die im Rahmen der physikalischen Experimente zu l\u00f6sen sind, beinhalten die Echtzeitverarbeitung riesiger Datenmengen, typischerweise mehrere Petabytes pro Jahr. Dies kann in speziellen Forschungslabors wie dem CERN erforderlich sein, wird aber manchmal auch an exotischen Orten wie dem geografischen S\u00fcdpol ben\u00f6tigt, der nicht nur theoretisch, sondern auch praktisch in jeder Hinsicht extrem ressourcenbeschr\u00e4nkt ist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Um die sehr wertvollen experimentellen Daten effizient nutzen zu k\u00f6nnen, m\u00fcssen die entwickelten Algorithmen in ihrer Vorhersagegenauigkeit h\u00f6chsten Qualit\u00e4tsanspr\u00fcchen gen\u00fcgen und gleichzeitig die Unsicherheit, mit der die Vorhersagen behaftet sind, absch\u00e4tzen. Bei diesem Ansatz geht es weniger um die Frage, ob ein Algorithmus f\u00fcr die Beantwortung einer bestimmten Frage vertrauensw\u00fcrdig ist \u2013 was sich zeigen l\u00e4sst \u2013, sondern vielmehr darum, welche Qualit\u00e4tskriterien er in welchem Ma\u00dfe erf\u00fcllt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Interdisziplin\u00e4re Zusammenarbeit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Im interdisziplin\u00e4ren Forschungsbereich der Physik wollen wir mathematische Methoden zur Simulation physikalischer Modelle und Messverfahren weiter erforschen. Wir werden den Einsatz von Algorithmen des Maschinellen Lernens f\u00fcr eine optimale, ressourceneffiziente Datenerfassung und -analyse weiter untersuchen. Diese exemplarischen Anwendungen sollen zu Kristallisationspunkten f\u00fcr die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Physikern und Datenwissenschaftlern werden.
